I was high for a few days, so nothing really mattered to me. Like I said, I was doing things with impulse, making decisions not really caring about consequence. I guess I was angry, and in that state I made a mistake, and I intentionally went out in that moment with that encounter with that girl, and I intentionally did those things to her. But my regret came to me too late.|Ninow's confession.}} '''Nicholas Ninow''' is a South African convicted rapist and sex offender known as "the Dros Rapist". He is currently serving a life sentence for the rape of a seven-year-old girl in a restaurant toilet in 2018. Ninow is also serving two five-year sentences for drug possession and obstruction of justice. ==Crime== In September 2018, Ninow, a drug addict, entered an outlet of chain restaurant Dros in Silverton, East Pretoria. According to Ninow, he was feeling unwell and entered what turned out to be the women's toilets in order to take some drugs. After getting high, and still recovering from a drug binge he had been on the previous night, Ninow saw a seven-year-old girl in the toilets and impulsively grabbed her before raping her twice in a cubicle. He then attempted to flush her blood-stained panties down the toilet. The child's mother, the childminder and three waiters, who had noticed she was missing, entered and caught Ninow in the act of assaulting the child. He was arrested and charged with rape, although for the year leading up to the trial the media was forbidden from revealing his name. == Trial == Ninow's trial commenced on February 8, 2019, following a month of psychiatric evaluation. He pleaded guilty in the first minutes of the trial, but court sessions continued as the severity of the crime needed to be assessed. Ninow's defence was that his long history of drug abuse, which is known to have started from the age of thirteen or fourteen, had caused him to become temporarily insane (not his actual words). After hearing medical evidence and testimony from the victim's family, as well as Ninow's confession (see above), the judge sentenced Ninow to life imprisonment with a chance of parole in 25 years. Ninow was additionally convicted of obstruction of justice, for attempting to dispose of the girl's panties, and drug possession, and received two consecutive sentences of imprisonment for five years on these counts.
