Nigel Malt is a British man who murdered his daughter Lauren Malt in 2022.
Malt was estranged from his family; at the time of his daughter's murder he was on bail awaiting trial for assaulting his wife Karen in April 2021. Malt refused to accept this and continued to harass Karen, calling her persistently.
On 23 January 2022, Malt once again made several calls to his wife's house. His daughter Lauren was home with her boyfriend Arthur Marnell at the time and answered the phone. What was said is not known, but it angered Malt sufficiently for him to drive to the house armed with a crowbar to confront Lauren. Upon arrival, he and Arthur Marnell argued and Malt attempted to attack Marnell with a crowbar, causing him to flee the scene. According to neighbours, Malt then got in his car seemingly to leave, only to reverse into Lauren and knock her over. He then reversed over her and drove over her again, before getting out of the car and yelling at neighbours not to call emergency services. He drove Lauren, who had died at the scene, to hospital and claimed she had been the victim of an accident.
Malt was charged with murder. He claimed in his defence that he had run her over accidentally. However, mobile phone footage taken by neighbours depicted Lauren screaming in agony as Malt reversed over her, despite which Malt made no attempt to stop until after he had driven over her. Prosecutor Andrew Jackson told the jury that Malt had been "consumed with anger" over his family situation and had taken out his anger on Lauren and her boyfriend. Malt was found guilty on 18 July 2022 and sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in prison.
