Panya Kamrab
Panya Kamrab (Thai:ปัญญา คำรา, 1988 – October 6th, 2022) was a Thai police sergeant responsible for perpetrating the 2022 Nong Bua Lamphu attack, in which he killed 36 people (24 children) and injured 10 others by shooting, stabbing, and vehicle-ramming before killing himself.
Overview
Khamrab was born and raised in Nong Bua Lamphu province. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in law at Ramkhamhaeng University and joined the police force in 2012. Khamrab had been a drug addict since highschool, and displayed violent behavior during his police service.
In January 2022, he had been arrested for possessing methamphetamine, and was dismissed dismissed from the police force as a result of his drug addiction.
Shooting
On October 6th, 2022, Khamrab drove a pickup truck and arrived at a local nursery around lunch time. He fatally shot a father and son outside the nursery before entering the nursery and shot five staff members, in which three of them died. Among them was a teacher who was eight months pregnant. He then entered a room where 30 children were sleeping and killed 22 of them.
Khamrab fled the scene with his pickup truck and shot dead seven people and fatally ran over a villager while fleeing. He went home, burnt his pickup truck, shot his wife and stepson before killing himself.
Aftermath
An autopsy was conducted at Udon Thani provincial hospital and the autopsy found no evidence that Khamrab had drugs within the 72 hours before the mass shooting. The police chief said that Khamrab had no record of mental health problems but had a history of drug use. However, the police chief said that Khamrab was apparently under stress and hallucinatedduring the deadly rampage.
