Park Chung-hee (14 November 1917 – 26 October 1979) was the dictator of South Korea from 1961 until he was assassinated. He has been severely criticized for his government's brutality, especially after 1971. However, he was credited for the kickstarting the South Korean economy during the event of the "Miracle on the Han River." He is described as the greatest president of South Korean history but many see so differently because of his strict, authoritarian rule. He had a mixed legacy that has left an image on South Korea.
