Richard Baer was a Nazi Party member and Schutzstaffel officer who was the commander of the Auschwitz and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps. After the war ended, Baer fled and eventually settled near Hamburg, living under the alias Karl Egon Neumann. However, law enforcement eventually found him on December 20, 1960. He died of a heart attack while in pre-trial detention on June 17, 1963
