Ryan Collins is an American computer hacker who stole passwords of various celebrities' online accounts, mostly women. He then stole their private information, especially naked photographs, which caused the Celebgate scandal involving the leak of nude photos of said celebrities. He would also pose as a talent scout for models to convince victims to send him naked pictures.

Pennsylvania native Collins gained control of 50 Apple iCloud accounts and 72 Gmail accounts, with high-profile victims including Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, and Avril Lavigne. Unlike other hackers, he did not, however, release anything to the public.

As a result of the nude photo leaks, Apple planned to take additional steps for the security of iCloud. Additionally, they will broaden and encourage the use of two-factor authentication in future versions of its software and operating systems.

Judgement[edit]

In March 2016, Collins pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information. In October 2016, he was sentenced to 18 months in US federal prison, where there is no chance of early parole for any reason.
