Steve Drain

Steve Drain is a former member of the Westboro Baptist Church. He was one of the very few members of the church not related to the Phelps family by blood.
Life in the Westboro Baptist Church edit
Before he joined the Westboro Baptist Church, he was a filmmaker who wanted to document the church. After listening to one of Fred Phelps sermons, he converted to the church and moved his family to Kansas. When his daughter, Lauren Drain, started to question the beliefs of the church. Steve was the first to say his own daughter should be kicked out. Once Lauren had left, Steve removed every picture of Lauren and disowned her. Steve was the official spokesperson of the Westboro Baptist Church and handles the church's online media.
Drain and a group of fellow church members formed an elder board around 2011 which began to handle the affairs of the church. They subsequently turned on Shirley Phelps-Roper, removing her from the spokesperson duties. Sometime around August/September 2013, Drain and the rest of the church excommunicated Fred Phelps for alleged heresy after an incident where Phelps had allegedly called the pro-LGBT house across the street “Good People”. He confirmed that Fred Phelps was in hospice care following Nathan Phelps' Facebook post on the matter, but he didn't comment on Pastor Phelps' excommunication.
Sometime in late 2020, Drain, his wife and two youngest children were kicked out of Westboro Baptist Church. It is unknown at this time as to why they were kicked out.
