The Stocks was a medieval form of public humiliation in which convicted criminals were chained and forced to endure the wrath of the crowds, who often pelted them with rotten fruit, spat at them and on occassions even punched and kicked them.. they would also be felt in the Stocks for days on end as an example to others.
The Stocks are now considered inhumane and instruments of torture.
