They are known for engaging in shootouts with police from their armored pickup trucks(which usually result in the deaths of those involved) and making execution videos in a manner typical of Mexican cartels. In addition, they have intimidated business owners who sell to police officers.

On November 30, 2019 Tropa del Infierno gunmen assaulted the city hall in Villa Union, Coahuila, kidnapping people and stealing cars. The next day, police pursued them and rescued most of their hostages. In the confrontation, 17 gunmen, 4 police officers, and 2 civilians were killed.
