Vadim Ershov, AKA The Krasnoyarsk Beast, is a Russian serial killer and rapist.
Biography edit
Ershov was drafted into the Russian army in 1991, and was regularly abused and hazed by other soldiers. He eventually retaliated by beating one of his tormentors with a brick and stabbing him before deserting and returning to his hometown of Krasnoyarsk.
Soon after his desertion, Ershov raped a 16-year-old girl and beat her with a hammer, but she survived. Then, on 28 November 1992, he raped a 42-year-old and beat her with a stick. Over the next three years he raped 18 more women, 15 of whom were killed afterwards. He also committed about 40 robberies, which resulted in four deaths, including a police officer.
Ershov was finally captured in 1995 when he attacked a 16-year-old girl and attempted to steal her gold necklace. Her screams attracted a relative, a Federal Security Service officer, who chased after him. Ershov was able to wound the officer with a knife but was subdued with a fire extinguisher by a bystander and arrested. Although initially attempting to use a false identity, Ershov eventually gave his real name and pointed officers towards his residence, where they found items stolen during Ershov's robberies, two knives and a diary in which he detailed his various crimes.
Ershov was found to be legally sane by the Siberian Military District Court and sentenced to death by firing squad. His sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. He is currently serving his sentence in Black Dolphin Prison.
