Private First Class '''Varnado Simpson''' (October 7, 1948 – May 4, 1997) was an American soldier who shot himself out of remorse over his participation in the [[My Lai Massacre]]. Under the command of his superior officer, [[Ernest Medina]], Simpson killed at least eight civilians, although he would later claim that he killed a baby and had a bout of temporary insanity during which he killed twenty-five people. He also claimed to have killed water buffalo and also cut out people's tongues. He developed PTSD after the event.
