Private First Class Varnado Simpson (October 7, 1948 – May 4, 1997) was an American soldier who shot himself out of remorse over his participation in the My Lai Massacre. Under the command of his superior officer, Ernest Medina, Simpson killed at least eight civilians, although he would later claim that he killed a baby and had a bout of temporary insanity during which he killed twenty-five people. He also claimed to have killed water buffalo and also cut out people's tongues. He developed PTSD after the event.
