Vladislav Igorevich Roslyakov (May 2, 2000 - October 17, 2018) was the eighteen-year-old perpetrator of the mass shooting at Kerch Polytechnic Institute on October 17^th 2018.

The massacre resulted in the murder of 21 students and professors, more than 50 injured, and approximately 3 comatose. The shooting came to a close when Roslyakov ended his own life in the library.

Childhood edit

Vladislav Igorevich Roslyakov was born on May 2, 2000 to parents Igor Roslyakov and Galina Roslyakova in Kerch, Russia. The couple would later divorce ten years after the birth of their son, however, after Igor sustained an acute cranial injury and began acting in an aggressive manner towards family members, including Vladislav and Galina. The unspecified head injury resulted in Igor becoming disabled.

Little is known about Roslyakov's parents. A significant detail that has emerged since the attack is the fact that Galina was/is a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, a cult that had already been banned in Russia. Galina enforced restrictive behaviors (possibly picked up from the group) upon her son. As a result, Vladislav was barred from partaking in certain activities such as visiting the cinema and participating in lighthearted school events. Galina would also frequently search her son's pockets and limit his social interactions (which could very well have contributed to Roslyakov's lack of many friends). Contrary to popular belief, Vladislav did in fact have access to internet before the age of sixteen. When he was around fourteen, perhaps younger based on his voice, he uploaded a video onto the website YouTube: a play through of video game Minecraft. In contrast to his mother's strict religious views, Vladislav Roslyakov developed his own atheistic views as he emerged into adulthood. On October 16, 2018, only a day before the massacre, Vladislav confided to a friend that he did not believe in an afterlife.

Prior to his enrollment at Kerch Polytechnic Institute, Vladislav attended a local school. During this time, he expressed no interest in his studies and consequently received poor grades. It is implied that Roslyakov had a fascination with weapons from a young age and had few friends. As far as we know, this element of independence was something that would remain consistent throughout his life.

In 2015, Vladislav Roslyakov began attending Kerch Polytechnic Institute, with probable hopes of becoming an electrician (evident in both his school records and his liking to video games). It was around this time that Vladislav began to engage in suspicious behaviors, including carrying a knife bayonet to class and pursuing an interest in weapons and explosives. If Roslyakov had taken an interest in weapons in his younger years, those interests had almost certainly intensified. Luckily, there are no reports of the knife having ever been utilized. Despite this, Vladislav Roslyakov was involved in an incident where he [Roslyakov] ejected the contents from a can of pepper spray into one of his classrooms for unexplained reasons.

A girl claiming to be the perpetrator's ex-girlfriend discloses that Vladislav would confide in her his struggles of bullying he reportedly faced from others, despite contradictory statements from others who knew Roslyakov. Roslyakov had stated that he wanted to exact revenge on "evil professors". Despite this, the perpetrator reportedly never displayed any sort of aggression towards his peers. During his freshman year at Kerch Polytechnic Institute, Roslyakov apparently equipped himself with a knife, although there have been no reported incidents regarding any use of the weapon.

Roslyakov and his mother lived in poverty, and the perpetrator claimed to have been bullied for dressing in "poor clothes". Roslyakov also maintained an unhealthy obsession with murderers and dreamed of recreating the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, USA.

Despite his hatred for the Institute, Vladislav Roslyakov received satisfactory grades and was frequently praised by professors as being a model student. Roslyakov also left behind a social media trail, belonging to multiple online groups centered around the discussion of murderers (specifically serial killers). Unsurprisingly (as evident from his clothing on the day of the massacre and the attack itself), the perpetrator was enraptured by the Columbine massacre that was carried out nineteen years prior by students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Purportedly, Vladislav was a member of a group dedicated to the teen killers and expressed to friends that "it would be good to have a massacre" [most likely referring to Kerch Polytechnic Institute].

During the afternoon hours of October 17, 2018, eighteen-year-old Kerch Polytechnic Institute senior Vladislav Roslyakov entered school grounds, armed with more than ten homemade explosives, 150 bullets, and a Hatsan Escort Aimguard 12-gauge pump-action shotgun that Roslyakov paid approximately 30,000-40,000 roubles for (or $450-600 USD). The gun was legally purchased by the perpetrator, as he had obtained a gun/weapon permit earlier that year. The currency used to acquire the shotgun was allegedly stolen from his grandmother. Roslyakov was donned in black jeans, a black hoodie (which was likely discarded before the events of the massacre), and a white short-sleeved shirt with black text across it, displaying the word 'ненависть'. ненависть, when translated to English, means 'hatred'. The suspect had also equipped himself with two bags, a grey one and black one. One of these bags, according to investigators, contained ten homemade bombs.

Although contradictory statements have arisen since the publication of the attack, witnesses claim that Roslyakov began his attack in the canteen before running from room to room, firing his weapon at anyone he spotted. The suspect also planted two bombs, one in the canteen and another in the institute's dining area. No deaths, however, have directly resulted from the detonations of these explosives. Officials claimed that one of the explosives contained unspecified metal objects. Roslyakov's body was discovered in the library on the second floor of the institute. Upon further examination, it is extremely likely that Roslyakov died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

- From his profile, it can be understood that he listened to neo-Nazi music, such as the song of the band "Трезвый Заряд" - "White Pride".
- He also followed the neo-Nazi pages "Racial Anthropology" and "Conservative Revolution".
- The login from his Steam is "ssgalichina", referring to the Ukrainian SS collaborationist division.
- Unlike his mother's pro-Russian views, Roslyakov considered himself a Ukrainian nationalist.
