William "Bill" Lothian was a Scottish football coach convicted of sexually assaulting several boys between 1997 and 2003.
While working as a coach, Lothian regularly groped the boys on the team, touching their genitals and digitally penetrating them anally. He would also invite them to sleepovers at his house, where he would get them to watch pornography, give them alcohol to make them more pliable and touch them on the genitals. One victim remembered that Lothian got him drunk, climbed into bed with him and rubbed his penis against him while fondling his genitals.
Several years after the final known assault, Lothian was publicly accused of child molestation by several of his victims. He was arrested and charged with 14 counts of indecent assault. Lothian pleaded not guilty but was convicted after testimony from his victims. On 10 May 2021 he was sentenced to 45 months imprisonment. He was found dead in his cell four days later on 14 May. The cause of death is currently unknown but is not believed to be in any way suspicious.
Despite his many sex crimes, Lothian's family firmly believe his innocence and have announced their intention to appeal his convictions.
