• June 7 - Indigenous Australian Genocide: at Hawksbury, A reprisal party of police officers massacred seven Bediagal people in retaliation for the alleged killing of two settlers, in what was known as the second Hawksbury massacre.
• October 27 - The Committee of Public Safety is abolished. The French Directory is subsequently established as the new governing committee of the French First Republic.
