*[[September 11 attacks|September 11]] - Islamic terrorists affiliated with [[Al-Qaeda]] hijack four planes and crash them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The Twin Towers are destroyed completely and the Pentagon is partially damaged. The fourth plane was targeting either the White House or the Capitol Building, but was brought down by the passengers before it could reach its destination.
