Biography edit

Abdullah Maute was born in Lanao del Sur in the Philippines at an unknown point in time. He and his brother Omar studied Islamic theology growing up, and Abdullah was educated in Jordan. Both were also senior members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, however they and their five brothers all left the group after it began to use non-violent methods and pledged allegiance to ISIS, as well as establishing connections with terrorist leader Ameril Umbra Kato and founding Maute group to overthrow the Filipino government.

During the Battle of Marawi, the Philippine army claimed that the Maute brothers had all been killed in a firefight, although this account was rejected after footage emerged of Omar Maute after his alleged death. On 4th September 2017, the Philippine army stated that Abdullah Maute had been killed in an airstrike in August, citing ISIS supporters proclaiming his martyrdom on social media. The Filipino government later confirmed that all of the Maute brothers except Omar were dead. Following Omar's death alongside former Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, Maute group was reported as being "practically wiped out" due to the end of the Maute brothers.
