Akira Watanabe is a Japanese office worker who sent mass emails threatening to commit arson and murder Sega Headquarters in 2022.
Watanabe was an obsessive gamer who was motivated by frustration and wrath after he kept losing an online Sega game, Pro Evolution Soccer, due to a glitch. Watanabe then decided to send an anonymous email threatening to burn down Sega's headquarters, murder all employees, and murder the families of all the employees. He continued to sent over 10 mails threatening the headquarter with the same message.
Thankfully, law enforcement tracked down his threat mail, which were traced to his cellphone. He was later arrested and is currently awaiting trial.
Trivia edit
- He is not to be confused with a Sega developer and art director of the same name, also named Akira Watanabe.
