Emory Andrew Tate III (b. December 1, 1986) is a British-American professional kick boxer and social media influencer infamous for his controversial views on women, which he himself has described as misogynistic. He has been banned from Facebook, TikTok and Instagram due to his views.

Tate is currently under arrest in Romania, where he is awaiting trial for rape and human trafficking.

Biography

Andrew Tate was born in Washington D.C. on December 14, 1986. He was raised in England by his father, World Champion Chess Player Emory Tate his father. In 2005, Andrew Tate started learning boxing and in 2009 won the International Sport Karate Association Full contact cruiserweight championship in England. He was ranked number 1 in his division in Europe.

In 2016, Andrew Tate appeared on the reality show Big Brother, coming under fire for using racist and homophobic slurs on Twitter. He was removed after a video surfaced of him hitting a woman with a belt.

During his career as an online influencer, Tate has repeatedly come under fire for his misogynistic attitudes. Infamously, he has stated that women who are sexually assaulted "bear some responsibility" and has defended sexual predator Harvey Weinstein, arguing that many of his victims were not abused. In several videos, Tate has gloated about abusing his ex-girlfriends and described how he would beat up a partner who accused him of cheating, which has led some to accuse him of radicalising young men to commit domestic abuse. He has described himself as "absolutely a misogynist" and argues that women should be the property of men.

In October 2022, he converted to Islam due to its patriarchal attitude towards women, talking of how he supports the archaic Islamic tradition of stoning adulterous women.

Human trafficking arrest

In April 2022, police in Romania, where Tate currently lives, received a tip-off that an American woman was being held captive in Tate's mansion. Tate's mansion was raided and the American woman and three others were found, with two telling police they were being held against their will. Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested. They were later released under investigation, but were both later rearrested in December alongside two women. Romanian authorities allege that the Tate brothers lured in at least six women with the promise of a romantic relationship before forcing them to appear in online pornographic videos. Tate's detention period was extended until February 2023 as the investigation continued. His detention period was extended several times before he was released and placed under house arrest in Bucharest until June 2023, when he, his brother and two others were officially charged with rape, human trafficking and forming an organized crime group. They have pleaded not guilty.
