Child murder

Child murder, or pedicide is the homicide of an individual who is a minor. There is also filicide which is the murder of an individual's own child.

It is one of the fatal and most devastating crimes commited against children and types of murder. Several U.S. states have included child murder to their list of aggravating factors that may make a murder punishable by the death penalty, but the victim’s age under which the crime is a capital crime varies between them. In 2011, Texas raised this age from six to ten.

By other children

There are only a few cases where children are murdered by other children in most countries, as only 1 out of 5 child murders were committed by other children according to the U.S. Department of Justice statistics for 1996. Usually, child murders committed by other children are caused by bullycide.

Several murders and attempted murders by children have gained prominent media exposure. A notorious example is the 2014 Slender Man stabbing, which was executed by Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier against their friend Payton Leutner in a forest, taking inspiration from the fictional character Slender Man.
