Storming of the Capitol edit
As a supporter of the conspiracy theory QAnon, having erected a billboard bearing the phrase #QAnon in 2018, Cleveland Meredith began supporting terrorist causes following the 2020 election, which saw Republican incumbent Donald Trump defeated by his Democratic opponent Joe Biden. Meredith, along with other QAnon supporters, began claiming that the election was rigged against Trump and stated their intention to prevent Biden's victory from being confirmed. Meredith's family were so worried about his support for the theory that they reported him to police multiple times.
In the days building up to the storming, Meredith posted on social media that he wanted to kill Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives. He talked about shooting her on live TV and used several misogynistic slurs in reference to her.
On January 6 2021 Meredith allegedly participated in in the protest outside Capitol Hill, which quickly escalated into a riot as Trump supporters breached the barriers put up to keep them out and entered the Capitol building. Meredith had previously boasted on social media that he was heading to Washington with armour-piercing bullets and guns in case of a riot.
Soon after, police were made aware of Meredith's involvement in the riot and searched his room in a Southwest Washington hotel. They found nothing in his room, but on searching his trailer they found a Glock 19, an assault rifle, a 9mm pistol and "approximately hundreds of rounds of ammunition". Meredith was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and making threats against a government official and is being held pending a hearing. On October 9, Meredith pleaded guilty to "interstate communication of threats".
