“ | The second you think that all your good fortune is a product of your virtue, you become highly judgmental, lacking empathy, totally without self-awareness, arrogant, stupid - I mean, all the stuff that our ruling class is. | „ |
~ Tucker Carlson |
Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson (born May 16, 1969) is an American far-right political commentator. He is well known for his work on Fox News. He is the host of his daily talk show Tucker Carlson Tonight, infamous for being a far-right propagandist.
Biography edit
Carlson began his journalism career with a stint at CNN from 2000 to 2005, before moving to PBS from 2004 to 2005, then to MSNBC from 2005 to 2008, and finally moving onto Fox News in 2009.
Villainy edit
- On the radio program Bubba the Love Sponge, Carlson defended Warren Jeffs and FLDS, arguing that Jeffs should not be imprisoned for facilitating child marriage because "arranging a marriage between a 16-year-old and a 27-year-old is not the same as a stranger pulling a woman off the street and raping her" and "the rapist in this case has made a lifelong commitment to live and take care of the person", among other misogynistic remarks.[1]
- He has argued that underage boys who are sexually abused by older women are not victims and are "whiny" if they report their abusers to the police.[2]
- He has been accused of sexual harassment on multiple occasions.[3]
- He has perpetuated COVID denialism and vaccine denialism, accusing the Democratic Party of "manufacturing" the COVID pandemic,[4] falsely suggesting that the COVID-19 vaccine does not work,[5] repeatedly inviting anti-vaxxer Alex Berenson on his show[6], comparing mandatory vaccination to the racist Jim Crow laws[7] and opposing the wearing of face masks to prevent COVID infection to the point of calling for parents who have their children wear masks to be arrested for child abuse.[8]
- He has engaged in historical denialism relating to Christopher Columbus' treatment of Native Americans in the Caribbean by stating that the majority of the natives' deaths were attributed to disease, despite the evidence refuting these claims.[9]
- He has been accused of promoting the racist Great Replacement conspiracy theory,[10] accusing the Democratic Party of “trying to replace the current electorate with more obedient voters from the Third World”[11] and claiming that immigration is dangerous to the country because immigrants “values are simply antithetical to ours”.[12]
- He has publicly supported Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and defended his invasion of Ukraine, repeating Putin's false claims that Ukraine is a threat to Russia's borders.[13] He has also argued that there is no reason for the American public to oppose Putin: "Has Putin ever called me a racist? Has he threatened to get me fired for disagreeing with him?"[4]
- A supporter of the Stop the Steal movement, Carlson has argued that the perpetrators of the 2021 United States Capitol storming are being unjustly persecuted and that many of them "did nothing wrong"[14], including several who had clear violent intent and were carrying weapons and tactical gear.[15] In his documentary Patriot Purge he advanced the conspiracy theory that the Capitol riot was a false flag operation by the Democratic Party to provide them with an excuse to persecute the American right.[16]
