Zara Phythian is a British martial artist and actress best known for her roles in Doctor Strange, Cannibals and Carpet Fitters, and Tribal Get Out Alive. She was the first British martial artist to be inducted into the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame and was a guest referee in the 2019 Phoenix Wrestling Association Summer Showdown.
Child sex charges edit
In April 2022, Phythian and her husband Victor Marke came to trial at Nottingham Crown Court for accusations of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl between 2005 and 2008. Marke was also accused of abusing a separate girl without assistance from Phythian. The victim testified that when she was between 13 and 15, Marke and Phythian, working as karate instructors, had used their positions to groom her. Once the grooming process was complete, Phythian plied the victim with alcohol and forced her to have sex with Marke while she filmed. Marke raped the victim dozens more times, with Phythian usually being present to film the rapes, staged as recreations of pornographic videos. The victim testified in court that she had looked up to Phythian and Marke and had been reluctant to accuse them for several years before a separate victim accused Marke of having groomed her.
On 11 May 2022, Phythian and Marke were both convicted on all charges. Phythian was sentenced to eight years in prison. She has pledged to appeal her conviction.
