January 17 - Theodore Bilbo is elected Governor of Mississippi for the second time.
April 12 - Benito Mussolini survives an assassination attempt by bomb in Milan, which kills 17 people.
May 28 - Albert Fish commits his first confirmed murder when he kidnaps, kills, and cannibalizes 8-year old Grace Budd.
August 14 to October 18 - The Coniston Massacre takes place.
October 1 - Joseph Stalin launches the Soviet Union's first five-year plan.
October 10 - Chiang Kai-shek reunifies China under the rule of the Kuomintang, and is named Chairman of the National Government of the Republic of China.
December 5 to 6 - The Banana Massacre: Colombian Army forces under command of General Carlos Cortés Vargas and sent by President Miguel Abadía Méndez are deployed to the town of Ciénaga near Santa Marta, Colombia at the behest of the United Fruit Company to put down a labor strike. Between 47 and 2000 are killed.
