- April 12 - The Kuomintang carries out the 1927 Shanghai Massacre on the orders of Chiang Kai-shek in an attempt to suppress the Communist Party of China. This marks the beginning of the Chinese Civil War.
- May 18 - Andrew Kehoe perpetrates the Bath School bombing in Bath Township, Michigan by detonating homemade explosives at Bath Consolidated School, killing 42 people and injuring close to 60 others. He would commit suicide later the same day by detonating explosives inside his truck.
- June 24 - The Iron Guard is founded.
- July 10 - Kevin O'Higgins, Vice-President of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State and Minister for Justice, is assassinated in Dublin by the Irish Republican Army.
- September 21 - Wang Jingwei agrees to dissolve his rival government in Wuhan.
- December 15 - 12-year old Marion Parker is kidnapped from the Bellevue Arms Apartments in Los Angeles and brutally murdered by William Hickman, in what is considered to be one of the worst crimes in California history.
