April 17 - The Cambodian Civil War ends when Lon Nol is deposed by the Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot renames the country Democratic Kampuchea and becomes the de facto leader of the country. Beginning of the Cambodian Genocide.
April 30 - End of the Vietnam War. Vietnam is re-unified under the banner of communism.
June 30 - Paul Biya is named the first Prime Minister of Cameroon.
July 5 - Juvénal Habyarimana, President of Rwanda, establishes the National Revolutionary Movement for Development to serve as the governing political party of Rwanda.
July 29 - Yakubu Gowon is overthrown as dictator of Nigeria in a military coup.
October 23 - The Battle of the Hotels begins in Beirut, Lebanon.
December 2 - The Laotian Civil War ends when the Lao Royal Family is deposed by the Pathet Lao. The country is reorganized into the Lao People's Democratic Republic .
December 29 - The 1975 LaGuardia Airport bombing occurs when a bomb detonates near the TWA baggage reclaim terminal at LaGuardia Airport, New York City, killing 11 people and seriously injuring 74 others. The perpetrators were never identified, although investigators and historians believe that Croatian nationalists were the most likely.
