• July 14 - Peace talks between Uganda and the Lord's Resistance Army begin at a summit in Juba, South Sudan.

• December 30 - Saddam Hussein is found guilty of genocide and mass murder and is hanged by the Iraqi Special Tribunal. Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, his former closest advisor, is subsequently named the new Regional Secretary of the Iraqi Ba'ath Party.
