• August 7 - The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia find Nuon Chea, right-hand man of former dictator Pol Pot, guilty of crimes against humanity committed during the Khmer Rouge regime and sentence him to life in prison.
• August 28 - Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is elected President of Turkey.
• December 4 - Yaser Abdel Said is placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List.
• December 23 - Luka Magnotta is sentenced to life in prison for his role in the murder of Jun Lin. He will be eligible for parole in 25 years.
