- May 31 - The Slender Man stabbing: Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier lure their best friend, 12-year old Payton Leutner, into the woods of Waukesha, Wisconsin and stab her 19 times. Leutner manages to survive the attack.
- June 2 - The Palestinian Unity Government is established by Hamas and Fatah in an attempt to foster peace between the two organizations.
- June 8 - Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is elected President of Egypt.
- June 29 - Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant declares itself to be a worldwide caliphate, claiming global authority over all Muslims worldwide. Their leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is formally recognized as Caliph.
- June 30 - The Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade pledges allegiance to Islamic State.
- July 17 - Eric Garner dies after being choked by police officer Daniel Pantaleo.
- August 2 - Lance Mason is arrested for domestic violence.
- August 3 to 8 - Sinjar Massacre: ISIL captures the city of Sinjar in Iraq. Over the course of five days, Yazidis in Sinjar are killed en masse, with an estimated 5,000 being killed. The massacre marks the beginning of ISIL's campaign of genocide against the Yazidis.
- August 7 - The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) finds both Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan guilty of crimes against humanity committed during the Khmer Rouge regime and sentences them both to life in prison.

- December 26 - Christine Weston Chandler caught Vandalism while protesting Sonic Boom, all because Sonic's new design in it gave him blue arms. She went on to deface various pieces of Sonic Boom merchandise at a GameStop location.
