- February 17 - Colonel William R. Higgins, the leader of a U.S. Army observation unit in Lebanon, is kidnapped by Hezbollah.
- March 6 - Three Irish Republican Army volunteers are shot to death by the SAS while attending to bomb British military personnel in Gibraltar.
- March 16 - Milltown Cemetery massacre: Michael Stone attacks the funeral of the Gibraltar Three, killing three mourners.
- March 19 - Two British army corporals, Derek Wood and David Howes, are lynched by Irish republicans after accidentally driving into the funeral of one of the Milltown massacre victims.
