• February 25 - The Cave of the Patriarchs massacre is perpetrated in the city of Hebron in the West Bank; during a Ramadan service, former Israeli Defense Force physician Baruch Goldstein murders 29 Palestinian Muslim worshipers and wounds another 125 before being beaten to death by surviving worshipers.
• March 23 - PRI presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio is assassinated during a rally in Tijuana.
• March 30 - The Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front is founded.

• May 4 - The Gaza-Jericho Agreement is signed by Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, creating the Palestinian National Authority to serve as an interim government for the Palestinian territories.
• May 10 - Silvio Berlusconi is elected Prime Minister of Italy for the first time.
• June 16 - Three Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) members are shot dead by the Irish National Liberation Army on Shankill Road near the UVF headquarters in Belfast.
• July 11 - The Khmer Rouge establishes the Provisional Government of National Union and National Salvation of Cambodia as a rival government to the Phnom Penh-based government lead by the Cambodian People's Party.
• July 18 - Hezbollah perpetrates the AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
• July 19 - The Rwandan Patriotic Front, lead by Paul Kagame, drives the last remnants of the MRND out of Rwanda. RPF member Pasteur Bizimungu is appointed as the President of Rwanda.
• July 22 - Yahya Jammeh leads a bloodless coup to overthrow President of the Gambia Dawda Hawara, establishing a military junta known as the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council.
• July 24 - Alexander Lukashenko is named President of Belarus.
• July 29 - Physician John Britton and his bodyguard James Barrett are murdered by Army of God member Paul Hill outside of the Ladies Center abortion clinic in Pensacola, Florida.
• October 4 - In Switzerland, 23 members of the Order of the Solar Temple cult are found dead, a day after 25 of their fellow cultists are similarly discovered in Morin-Heights, Quebec.
• October 10 - The Taliban is founded by Mohammed Omar and Abdul Ghani Baradar.
• October 26 - Shebule Jackson tries to kill his bullying victim, Hopeton Minott, but fails and is stabbed to death by the latter.
• November 28 - Jeffrey Dahmer is brutally beaten to death at Columbia Correctional Institution by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver. Jesse Anderson was along beaten alongside, who died two days later.
• November 30 - American rapper Tupac Shakur is robbed and shot five times by three men (one of them being Dexter Isaac) in the lobby of Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan.
• December - End of the First Republic of the Congo Civil War.
• December 11 - Beginning of the First Chechen War.
• December 24 - Air France Flight 8969 is hijacked at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers by the Armed Islamic Group of Algeria with intent to blow the plane up over the Eiffel Tower. However, the French GIGN storms the plane once it reaches Marseilles and kills the four hijackers.
• December 26 - End of the Djiboutian Civil War.
