• April 13 - Francois Tombalbaye is overthrown as President of Chad.
• April 17 - The Cambodian Civil War ends when Lon Nol is deposed by the Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot renames the country Democratic Kampuchea and becomes the de facto leader of the country. Beginning of the Cambodian Genocide.
• April 30 - End of the Vietnam War. Vietnam is re-unified under the rule of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
• May 1 - Beginning of the Third Indochina War.
• May 29 - Gustáv Husák is elected President of Czechoslovakia.
• June 30 - Paul Biya is named the first Prime Minister of Cameroon.
• July - Augusto Pinochet lauches Operation Colombo.
• July 5 - Juvénal Habyarimana, President of Rwanda, establishes the National Revolutionary Movement for Development to serve as the governing political party of Rwanda.
• July 29 - Yakubu Gowon is overthrown as dictator of Nigeria in a military coup.
• September 5 - U.S. President Gerald Ford survives an assassination attempt in Sacramento, California by former Manson Family member Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme.
• October 23 - The Battle of the Hotels begins in Beirut, Lebanon.
• November 11 - Agostinho Neto is named the first President of Angola. Beginning of the Angolan Civil War.
• November 29 - A bomb detonates in the restroom at Dublin Airport, killing an Aer Lingus employee and injuring 11 at a bar nearby. The Ulster Defence Association claims responsibility.
• December 2 - The Laotian Civil War ends when the Lao Royal Family is deposed by the Pathet Lao. The country is reorganized into the Lao People's Democratic Republic .
• December 7 - Suharto, President of Indonesia, invades and occupies East Timor, and also launches a campaign of genocide against East Timor.
• December 12 - The Balcombe Street Gang, a Provisional IRA unit responsible for several bombings in Great Britain, surrenders to the police, ending their campaign.
• December 29 - The 1975 LaGuardia Airport bombing occurs when a bomb detonates near the TWA baggage reclaim terminal at LaGuardia Airport, New York City, killing 11 people and seriously injuring 74 others. The perpetrators were never identified, although investigators and historians believe that Croatian nationalists were the most likely.
